PROJECTS

Don’t let anyone’s preconceptions about the ability of anyone come between your instincts for an authentic creative encounter. The unforeseen will always be the best thing about that encounter.

IN-HOUSE PROGRAMMES
Young Rogues

Physical Graffiti

A youth all-ability core project for beginners, serving as an introduction to Rogue Encounters physical theatre disciplines in a fun, relaxed environment.  Also, an opportunity for young people who wish to develop capacities for peer-leadership and volunteering.  This project is open to newcomers throughout the year, including recruits from autism spectrum disorder workshops and youths referred through Children and Adult Mental Health Services.

Urban Species

All Doors Open

An adult disability project for 18 - 25 years. Weekly workshops run throughout the year, leading to a physical theatre performance in the annual Rogue Encounters Lyric Showcase.

ROGUES GALLERY

Blue Chevy

An adult physical theatre ensemble that each year produces new work in a uniquely dynamic, visual style.  2024/25 will see the creation of a deaf/hearing ensemble, representing the deaf experience in vivid physical theatre storytelling.

Unusual Suspects - Currently in production…

THE RHYTHM OF TWO HEARTS
Stories of love and trauma

Devised and Performed by The Unusual Suspects

Directed by David Calvert, Rogue Encounters Artistic Director, assisted by Jade Quinn, Rogue Encounters Outreach Director

The ‘many splendored’ thing that is love, exemplified in the many-faceted stories of people who have survived catastrophic brain injury. Stories of devotion and desertion, high romance and comedy, longing and contentment. Love as food is to life, love that feeds the will to go on after trauma and love that vanishes in the face of the realities of life after trauma.

The Unusual Suspects is a physical theatre ensemble that has been two years in the making; two years of theatre training and intimate sharing of life experiences, that have resulted in the successful Broken Bodies production featured in the 2023 Bounce Festival and more recently to widespread acclaim at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast.

This new work will have new things to say about something we all think we know everything about already.  This is an ensemble of storytellers that can stop you in your tracks with vivid depictions of lives that have encompassed more extremes of experience than most of us can even imagine.

The Rhythm of Two Hearts will premiere at The Lyric Theatre, Belfast, on 3rd December to mark International Day of People with Disabilities.

ROGUES AT THE LYRIC THEATRE
All Ability

An annual physical theatre programme for youth of all abilities that results in a display as part of the Rogue Encounters Physical Theatre Exhibition at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast.

“An amazing theatre night, so adventurous and full of life and fun. Brilliant and sometimes scary improvisation.  Really great art.” – Jimmy Fay: Executive Producer, Lyric Theatre.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

We offer training modules for emerging facilitators wishing to extend the range and artistic palette of their work in participatory arts with people of all abilities.

As an experienced facilitator it can be difficult to find training of this calibre to stretch and enhance skills.  The five days working with David and Jade were invaluable to me as a practising artist and facilitator. David has unparalleled experience in facilitation, theatre making and working with a range of abilities. He generously shared his wealth of knowledge, skills and advice with us.
